On Monday 16th May the First Year History trip to the Irish National Centre, Ferrycarrig, Co. Wexford and the Cistercian Abbey, Jerpoint, Thomastown took place. In Ferrycarrig the students examined a stone-age circle where dance rituals may have occurred to worship the sun and encourage crops to grow…a stone-age disco as one student pointed out! The girls were told that had they lived in the Stone Age they would have half their lives lived already. This may be why, when offered bacon cooked in a reconstructed 4,000 year old fulacht fiadh, they cleverly let the teachers try it first! They enjoyed the visit to the Viking house and boat until they were told that they were nearly old enough to have been a Viking wife!

On then to Jerpoint where the girls toured the monastic ruins of the Cistercian monks. They found out that aswell as praying and chanting, these holy men were skilled farmers, brewers and teachers. The tour reinforced the syllabus followed during the year with teachers Ms. McGlynn and Sr. Anna Mai.

On Friday Night, 13th May the Transition Year Annual Fashion Show took place. It was a wonderful success with the students stepping out with great confidence! They are very grateful to Ms. Claire Bradfield (Co-ordinator) and Ms. Johanna Sheehan for their support. In the weeks leading up to the show Ms. Karen Morrissey gave lessons in beauty and make-up and Ms. Joan Brennan helped with dress design. On the night many of the Staff helped out backstage. A great highlight was the bridal wear (with the girls rivalling Kate Middleton!) and the dress design section where they modelled their own creations.
